A Brief History

Things have changed tremendously in greater Vancouver during the past quarter century. Our region has grown into one of the most dynamic, diverse and cosmopolitan areas of Canada. OpenRoad has kept pace with these developments. Our business practices, product lines, services and people continuously strive to compliment our customers' needs in response to the rapid and significant changes facing all of us today.

OpenRoad Auto Group Limited was established by the late Drs. Tjia Kian Tie and his two brothers William and Benjamin as Multiland Investment Limited in 1978. Its humble beginnings began with our first Richmond Toyota store in 1978. In those days, much of Richmond still reflected its agricultural past. However, with the tremendous population growth of the 1980's, we soon moved operations into the new Richmond Auto Mall at Westminster Highway and Knight Street. This expansion was a sign of our confidence in the growing importance of the Lower Mainland as a whole. Toyota Canada has shown their confidence in us by awarding Richmond Toyota with the only President's Award, as well as numerous other citations for sales and service excellence. In 1990, we were honored to develop the first stand-alone Lexus dealership in Canada, which also operates in the Richmond Auto Mall.

This pride in the support we receive from the people of Richmond, Vancouver, Ladner and Delta is as strong today as it was back in 1978. In January 2001, we embarked on a major construction project to ensure our clients continue to enjoy a spacious, more comfortable and more convenient Richmond Toyota facility when shopping for a vehicle or having it serviced. The new construction coincided with our company's new identity as OpenRoad Auto Group.

Expansion

We also did not forget about the importance of our clients from Burnaby and New Westminster, when in 1997 we began operating our OpenRoad Honda store (previously name Middlegate Honda) on Kingsway, near Edmonds. With each addition to our organization, OpenRoad has taken great care to ensure its customers continue to be served by the same associates you've grown to know and trust. We're very proud of the fact many of our staff have been a part of our family for five, ten, fifteen years or more. We think that kind of continuity and experience is important. Toyota, Lexus and Honda have recognized many of our associates for their sales excellence, outstanding customer service abilities and Master Technician status. These manufacturers set numerous and rigorous standards that recipients must first pass before they are awarded for their skills.

OpenRoad has also expanded to serve customers who live in North and West Vancouver. Our North Shore Acura dealership is situated in the North Shore Auto Mall, which is located the foot of Fell Avenue in North Vancouver. OpenRoad also operates three dealerships in Port Moody--OpenRoad Mazda, OpenRoad Toyota, and OpenRoad Lexus for those customers who live in the Tri-Cities. We have been serving the needs of these growing communities since 1982. As with all our operations, customers can feel confident knowing they benefit from OpenRoad's size and buying power when dealing with us.

Today OpenRoad Auto Group is one of Canada's largest and fastest growing automotive groups. It is the 39th largest private employer in British Columbia and was ranked as one of Canada's best companies to work for by the Globe and Mail.
